THE WINERY DOGS – “Ghost Town” Mike Portnoy Drum Playthrough

I’ve been a Dream Theater fan for as long as I’ve given a shit about playing my instrument well, and of course being a Mike Portnoy fan goes along with that. The man practically invented progressive metal drumming, and he certainly popularized it.

He’s also one of the hardest working drummers in music, and for sure in prog. One of his myriad projects since leaving DT has been The Winery Dogs, an honest-to-goodness supergroup trio consisting of Richie Kotzen (who plays like Paul Gilbert and sings like Chris Cornell, that talented bastard) and Billy Sheehan, who needs no introduction.

This video features the Dogs track “Ghost Town” off the band’s new album Hot Streak, which you can get right now.

As Editor-in-Chief of Gear Gods, I've been feeding your sick instrument fetishism and trying unsuccessfully to hide my own since 2013. I studied music on both coasts (Berklee and SSU) and now I'm just trying to put my degree to some use. That's a music degree, not an English one. I'm sure you noticed.
