Hailing all the way from Philadelphia lies one of PA’s best-kept progressive metal acts: Kaonashi! The “emo mathcore” 5-piece recently signed with Equal Vision Records last month, and now bassist August Axcelson is here with an exclusive playthrough for their track “Real Leather” from their 2018 EP Why Did You Do It?, only right here, on Gear Gods!
Now if there’s one thing these dudes have on lockdown, it’s f u c k i n g R I F F S. Holy hell. Right off the bat, the song smacks you with a mean ol’ groovy bastard of a lick that pushes the song forward and multiple points throughout the track. August’s tone is crystal clear and punchy, and his playing reinforces the rest of the track while hitting all the right parts as a bassist. A true banger of a song from beginning to end, with a couple of twists thrown in to keep you on your toes.
