Following the release of their newest record Open My Wounds (released October 26 via Stay Sick Recordings), Northern California-based metal trio Aethere are here with a brand new playthrough of their song “Portrait of Dead Eyes”. The video and song were both recorded live at Rapture Recordings in Hayward, CA, which is pretty fuckin’ impressive considering these dudes are making some of the most technical metal out there. Check it out, pack up your guitar, and feel bad about how much you need to practice, only right here, on Gear Gods!
It’s pretty clear to see right off the bat how in-sync these guys are here. Guitarist Chris Tognetti and drummer Josh Slater meld together perfectly through the relentless riffs and rhythms that this track is chock-full of, and vocalist James Patton positively kills it on the screaming throughout the song. That might be because of a possible relation to Mike Patton, but who knows.
About the experience of re-recording this song live, the band had this to say:
“It was great to go back to Cody Fuentes after recording our new album Open My Wounds with him, alongside the amazing Films and Noises crew. “Portrait of Dead Eyes” is the final song on our new record and features two guest solos by Mordant Raptures’ Kent Congdon and Ben Wilkinson. Open My Wounds is out now via Stay Sick Recordings and available on all major platforms. We are just about halfway through our time on the Evisceratour with Ingested, Enterprise Earth, and Bodysnatcher.”
