PRS’ Marty Friedman Signature Guitar Is a Symphony of Construction

It seems that Paul Reed Smith is having a busy week. Not only have they released the Archon high-gain amplifier, but they’re following it up with a Marty Friedman signature guitar.

The design isn’t far from what you’d expect to see from a PRS. The single-cutaway body has a mahogany body with a maple top (it should be a federal crime to paint maple, but oh well), a 22-fret mahogany neck, and a rosewood fretboard. The company’s own SE bass and treble pickups are installed inside.

Fans of the former Megadeth string wizard will be piqued to hear that this was the main guitar used to track his forthcoming Inferno record, the first solo opus from Friedman in four years.

Chris Alfano has written about music and toured in bands since print magazines and mp3.com were popular. Once in high-school he hacked a friend's QBasic stick figure fighting game to add a chiptune metal soundtrack. Random attractive people still give him high-fives about that.
