JHS has expanded their 3 Series lineup to include three new pedals, all of which are $99. So that’s nice.
The Rotary Chorus emulates exactly what you think it does – the Leslie rotary chorus originally designed for Hammond organs. Intensity determines the modulation depth. Speed lets you control how fast the simulated speaker “spins.” When you turn the Room toggle on (up position), it adds a roomy, reverb ambiance to the sound, much like the ambient “room microphone” sound that happens when recording a real Leslie.
The Oil Can Delay was originally designed for guitarist Nels Cline as a one-off. Though the JHS Oil Can Delay isn’t a signature artist pedal, it’s the same one made for Cline. The Oil Can Delay offers up Mix, Speed, and Feedback controls alongside a +/- switch that allows you to switch between modulation intensities.
The Tape Delay is a simplified and faithful throwback to classic delay units. The Mix control lets you control how much clean signal is blended in with the wet signal, Tape Speed acts as a simulation of the RE-201’s tape motor speeding up and slowing down, Repeats control goes from a single repeat to many, and the Flutter toggle replicates the wear and tear to the mechanical parts of a tape machine that happens over time.
