EVH Unveils 5150III Hypersonic 6L6: A Lightweight Digital Combo That Delivers Authentic 5150 Tube Tone

EVH has unveiled the new 5150III Hypersonic 6L6 1×12, a lightweight digital combo that aims to deliver the unmistakable tube tone of the classic EVH 5150III in a compact, modern format. With players increasingly seeking pro-level sound for both home studio recording and live gigs, the Hypersonic 6L6 arrives as one of the most ambitious digital amps the brand has released to date.

What sets the 5150III Hypersonic 6L6 apart from other modeling amps is its focus on recreating the specific feel and response that made Eddie Van Halen’s amps legendary. As guitarists continue to juggle studio sessions, late-night practice, small-venue gigs, and silent recording setups, EVH is leaning into digital innovation to solve the real-world challenges musicians face.

The Hypersonic puts that boundary-pushing mindset front and center, giving players pristine clean tones, punchy crunch sounds, and the aggressive high-gain roar associated with the 5150 name – all through a format that weighs just 39 pounds and fits easily into modern workflows.

“This represents the next evolution in EVH amplification, delivering Eddie’s iconic tone through innovative digital technology,” said Jon Romanowski, VP of Product for EVH Guitars.

“The Hypersonic 6L6 1×12 breaks down the barriers that have kept players from accessing authentic EVH sound, making it more portable and versatile than ever before. Whether players are recording at home or performing on stage, this amp delivers that unmistakable EVH tone that made Eddie’s sound iconic.”

That versatility comes from three fully independent channels, each tuned for a familiar EVH flavor. Channels one and two include concentric gain, EQ, and volume controls for precise tone shaping, while each channel features its own noise gate to keep high-gain settings tight and controlled. Channel three offers streamlined single-knob operation with its own gate for fast, heavy sounds that still retain articulation.

A redesigned footswitch adds remote control over both reverb and effects loop selection, while the power selector allows players to choose full power or five attenuated modes—an essential feature for those who want saturated tube-style tone at low volumes.

For guitarists who record direct or run amps silently onstage, the Hypersonic includes a balanced XLR output loaded with impulse response cabinet and microphone simulations, allowing mix-ready tones straight to a console. A dedicated mute switch makes silent practice and late-night tracking simple, and the amp is available in classic black or sleek ivory vinyl.
