Hey, remember when DigiTech Bad Monkey went for about a billion dollars in the used market because JHS’ Josh Scott figured out that it sounds exactly like a Klon? Great. Now you can get a new iteration of the pedal but for way less money.
DOD have reconstructed the pedal from the ground up to unleash the Badder Monkey – a souped-up simian stomp with enough circuit wizardry to send your tone tree-swinging into uncharted territory. Yes, it faithfully retains the original green-voiced Bad circuit. But that’s merely the jumping-off point.
The Badder Monkey is built around a trio of overdrive voices: the classic Bad circuit, plus the new Behaved and Badder circuits. Each one offers its own flavor of grit – from subtle tube-ish push to gnarlier rock snarl to outright chaos. But the real wildcard is the patent-pending 360-degree Barrel knob, which blends any two of these circuits into hybrid tones with outrageous depth and character
Then there’s the 3-way toggle which allows you to move the Bad circuit in or out of phase… or leave it in the center to unleash Troop mode, where all three circuits fire at once.
In true Jason Lamb fashion, the Badder Monkey ditches the traditional Level, Gain, and Tone labels in favor of the wonderfully irreverent: Bananas, Curiosity, and Mood. Each knob offers deep interaction with the circuits, letting you fine-tune everything from tight harmonic texture to sputtery simian madness.
DOD clearly didn’t stop at the tone. Mounting the pedal is just as clever thanks to the reversible, patent-pending StagePlate. One side features a traction-heavy Skid Pad for live floor use; flip it, and you’ll find a Hook Side Pad for instant pedalboard integration. No adhesives, no trimming Velcro—just remove a few screws and go.
