Dante and Gian Granados are the guitarists of Mexican progressive metal band Anima Tempo. Today we premiere a guitar playthrough video for the song “Cellophane Eyes” taken from their debut album Caged In Memories, released in January.
Commenting about the gear used on the album, the Granados brothers said:
“Well, basically and talking about guitars Dante recorded with an Ibanez Prestige RG1527 with Dimarzio Pickups (Liquifire 7 / Crunch Lab 7), a direct line with his Fractal Axe Fx Ultra. After that he re-amped his lines through an ENGL Poweramp to a Blackstar cab armed with V30 speakers and finally he blended both lines to give shape to his final tone.
“Gian recorded with an LTD Viper 407 with EMG 707 / Crunch Lab 7 pickups. He used an ENGL Ironball amp and a Taurus Stomphead Silver Edition with the same Blackstar Cab with V30 speakers. He get his final tone using several pedals like Maxon OD808, Xotic BB preamp, Fulltone OCD, Boss NS-2, Boss Compressor CS-3, and an ISP Decimator.”
Pre-production of the album was handled by Dante and Erik Mikalsen, and Nick Sampson (Polyphia, Born of Osiris, Immure, Erra) mixed and mastered the album, giving it its final shape.
“We can say we loved the final result, that was exactly what we was looking for Anima Tempo,” the Granados brothers said.
“Cellophane Eyes” tells a story of the main character who questions himself about the decisions he made in the past. Structurally the song starts with an orchestral intro that includes a duduk line accompanied with didgeridoo, zurna and tambura.
“The song mainly uses the B harmonic minor scale moving to F# harmonic and also D minor with some variations here and there always allowing the mid-east instruments play along the song with the intention to never lose that atmosphere of mysticism that the lyrics claim. We also tried to write a balance between the harsh and clean vocals. At the middle of the song you can find polyrhythm section, element that Anima Tempo love to use in our compositions. At the end of the song we played a breakdown to give way a cool harmonised guitar duet, finishing the song with a Duduk section.”
Anima Tempo will be promoting the Caged In Memories album by touring Japan in September and Europe in October. Their plans are also to tour more in Mexico, and some South American countries. The band is also writing songs for their second album which is to be released in 2017.
