Get stoked: one of the great bands of our time, Intronaut, are in the studio recording the follow-up to 2013’s masterpiece Habitual Levitations (Instilling Words With Tones). The band are once again working with engineer Josh Newell, and, as an added goodie, the band have recruited mad scientist/guitarist/composer Devin Townsend to mix the record.
This is certainly an interesting partnership – I’m not sure how much actual mixing Devin does on his own these days, or if his process includes working with another engineer – but certainly given Devin’s understanding of metal production and experienced ear, the results should prove fruitful.
Check out some photos from the first few days of sessions at Clear Lake Audio in Hollywood,California, including a nice peek at Danny Walker’s drum/mic set-up, below:

Danny’s cymbals are way too low, he just doesn’t know what he’s doing… hahaha. But seriously, I am skeptical with having Devin mix this record, I’m a DT fan but think that some of his recordings are WAY too compressed and sterile. Hopefully he’ll let this Intronaut record breath.
