Gear Gods Will Present Studio Pass: Two Days of Recording Instruction from Kurt Ballou

It’s not just Metal Masters we’re excited about here at Gear Gods. We’re excited as all get-out to announce that, this February, we’ll be bringing you Studio Pass: Kurt Ballou. For two days you’ll learn from the God City studio owner how he achieves the colossal sounds on records from Converge, KEN Mode, Skeletonwitch, Torche, High On Fire, and more.

Yes, Kurt has all kinds of fantastic recording gear, a slew of unique amps, stacks of great drums, etc, but the important thing is that all the gear in the world is just a bonus. Kurt will be demonstrating his techniques in such a way that it’s applicable to you regardless of what chitzy microphones and prosumer recording gear you’re struggling with. Everything from tracking to mixing, prep and preproduction, studio specifics, and more will be laid bare on the table for you to feast upon.

I don’t know about the rest of you guys, but I’m beyond excited about this. There are some great producers in the metal scene, but very, very few of them manage to convey the power of scrotum-to-the-walls metal while also not destroying a band’s ability to sound, well, like a band, and not gears in a factory. Kurt is one of the most in demand producers in the scene right now, and with good cause.

You can enroll in the class for free to watch it live on February 3rd and 4th, or buy anytime access for $79.

Chris Alfano has written about music and toured in bands since print magazines and mp3.com were popular. Once in high-school he hacked a friend's QBasic stick figure fighting game to add a chiptune metal soundtrack. Random attractive people still give him high-fives about that.
