I like the terminology Twelve Foot Ninja guitarist Stevic MacKay uses here. See to me, I think of what he’s talking about in the below video as just tonal variation… but MacKay cuts right to the point. The guitar tone that you use to introduce a riff with one channel, before you drop that pit-ready burner in stereo with the rest of the band, sounds poopy!
