This week, we sat down with acclaimed producer/engineer/guitarist/vocalist Erik Rutan of death metal legends Hate Eternal! Erik is prolific in his recording career, having done albums for Cannibal Corpse, Rivers of Nihil, Goatwhore, and more. We spoke mainly about his production philosophy, how he gets involved with bands very early on in their process, making him one of the more hands-on type producers I’ve talked to. He stresses the importance of proper pre-production and talks about his old-school approach to modern day techniques, such as on the new Hate Eternal album Infernus.
