Here’s Five Seconds of Thomas Pridgen Tracking Drums With Giraffe Tongue Orchestra

Like many of you, I’m hungry for any news about Giraffe Tongue Orchestra, the long-awaited project featuring guitarist Brent Hinds of Mastodon, guitarist Ben Weinman of Dillinger Escape Plan, actress/vocalist Juliette Lewis of Cape Fear, From Dusk Til Dawn, Strange Days, Natural Born Killers, bassist Pete Griffin (who has shared the stage with Dweezil Zappa, Chick Corea, Mike Portnoy, Dethklok, Steve Vai, Terry Bozzio, and many more), and recently clarified, drumming extraordinaire Thomas Pridgen, formerly of The Mars Volta.

Portions of the band recently jammed at the NAMM show in California, which appeared to be a jumping off point for getting all of the members of the band in the same state to enter the studio with producer-engineer extraordinaire Steve Evetts (whose long career has included work on incredible records by bands like Dillinger, Kid Dynamite, Every Time I Die, Deadguy, Poison the Well, and many more).

Evetts posted the following brief clip to his Instagram account of Pridgen and Weinman tracking last night that proves that this band is really starting to become a thing. It’s not much, but… man, what it implies is a whole lot. Check it out, along with some photos from Weinman’s Instagram of the band screwin’ around, below:

I hadn’t listened to Pridgen’s playing on the Mars Volta albums in a while, so I dug back in, and… man. It is really something. The prospect of him doing what he did on tracks like the following from The Bedlam in Goliath, set to riffs written by Weinman and Hinds, while Juliette Lewis croons over the top and Pete Griffin lays it down? I mean… christ.
