Glenn Fricker’s Hidden Gem for $40 – Samson CS Microphone

As you can imagine I might be after doing this job for a bit, I’m kind of a gear snob. Not compared to a great number of people with a lot more money to burn than myself, but I am a bit stuck in the mindset of you get what you pay for. This is a general rule I keep, as a result of many experiences that have reinforced it. HOWEVER! I love more than anything to be proven wrong. Otherwise, I might just miss many a hidden gem – much like this Samson CS mic.

Glenn Fricker is also a tough customer, so for him to be impressed with a cheapo mic like this says a lot. He demonstrates the mic’s interchangeable capsules, which is unheard of for such a low-cost microphone, and hell if they don’t sound pretty great. If you’re on a tight budget, it might serve you well to get two of these rather than one SM57 for the same price.

This sums up my thoughts on the matter:

As Editor-in-Chief of Gear Gods, I've been feeding your sick instrument fetishism and trying unsuccessfully to hide my own since 2013. I studied music on both coasts (Berklee and SSU) and now I'm just trying to put my degree to some use. That's a music degree, not an English one. I'm sure you noticed.
