Watch: Creed’s Scott Phillips Hears a Day To Remember for the First Time, Nails It

A Day To Remember drummer Alex Shelnutt watches Creed drummer Scott Phillips perform an A Day To Remember song for the first time on Drumeo’s YouTube channel.

Despite their popularity, Creed and Alter Bridge drummer Scott Phillips has never heard A Day To Remember. Which made their music the perfect choice for Drumeo and their ongoing series of making drummers play songs they’ve never heard.

Watch below as Phillips tackles “The Downfall Of Us All”, taken from the 2009 record Homesick. And if you don’t think you’ve ever heard this song, yes you have. Everyone who had a MySpace in 2009 knows this song.

Though it should be noted that Phillips took a minute to be stumped by Drumeo. Some of the songs they tried prior (that he knew) included:

  1. Killswitch Engage – “My Curse”
  2. Avenged Sevenfold – “Afterlife”
  3. Muse – “Hysteria”
  4. Fall Out Boy – “Thnks fr th Mmrs”
  5. Marilyn Manson – “The Beautiful People”
  6. Whitesnake – “Still Of The Night”

On his attempt, Phillips said: “I just attempted ‘A Downfall of Us All’ by A Day to Remember. Awesome song. There’s some parts that I could feel that I was pretty close on. There’s some parts that I was not close on. Hope you guys enjoyed it. I hope I didn’t mess it up too bad.”

Even better, A Day To Remember drummer Alex Shelnutt also weighed in on Phillips’ performance. Spoiler – he thought it was awesome: “That’s so sick. I feel like how do you even judge stuff like that? ‘Cuz it’s so different. I feel like I’d have to listen to it like 10 times. It was cool.

“There were things in there I’ve never even heard that like, I don’t know how to explain it. Really cool. It’s sick. Thank you for playing one of our songs. It’s crazy. I don’t have any notes.”
