Welsh death metal group VENOM PRISON has blessed us all with not just one – but TWO playthroughs of their track “Uterine Industrialisation.” The song is taken off their latest album Samsara, which was released back in March of this year. Here in these videos, observe bassist Mike Jefferies and guitarists Ash Gray and Ben Thomas absolutely destroy the universe with the sickest riffs and windmill-ing grooves. Did I mention the gnarly usage of the whammy bar? I mean they freaking abuse the poor thing. It’s amazing.
Check out the guitar playthrough here:
About the guitar playthrough and their gear, guitarists Ash Gray and Ben Thomas had this to say:
For Samsara I used a Jackson Demmel V 6 string equipped with Seymour Duncan JB and 59 pickups. Ran the guitars through various Blackstar amps such as HT Metal & Artisan. Pedals we tried a large amount, probably too many to remember, however Maxon OD808 and TC Sentry was used as a finishing touch to the HT Metal Distortion, Reverb used for my set up was a Digitech Polara, Chorus, MXR analog, and DL4 Line 6 Delay. I’m fairly sure the fuzz channel on Dukkha was through a classic Big Muff as well.
Writing this song was a way for us to express the groove elements Venom Prison is capable of whilst maintaining the foundations of what a Venom Prison song holds which is aggression. The balance isn’t always easy but very pleased with the outcome and I feel from this record has really started to shape the sound of Venom Prison
(From Ash Gray)
For the recording of Samsara, I was over excited to use my Jackson RR pro series Flying V! My first guitar with a Floyd Rose! Could you tell by the number of dive bombs on the album? Ash and I both used mainly the Blackstar HT metal and the artisan for cleans. I also used my Charvel San Dimas for a few leads and cleans that needed that extra jangly strat sound. Pedals, we used so many. But the stars of the show for me where the walrus Julia chorus and my boss DD500. This song for me has different elements. Subtle, but still different. Use of grind core, grooves, classic rock octave chords and a swung tempo section with major third harmonies. Oh and a solo with a wag. We saved the clean parts and swells for other songs. Uterine is just straight up anger.

And now for the bass playthrough:
About the bass playthrough and his gear, Mike Jeffries had this to say:
David Ellefson CBXV with EMG 40HZB in the bridge and EMG 40HZ4N In the neck positions. Active 3 band EQ. Jackson hi mass bridge. Strung with D’addario EXL170-5s (45-130).
Pedal board signal chain. Bass > Boss TU3 > Input of NS-2 noise suppressor > EHX bass big muff deluxe > Darkglass B7K ultra (Big muff & B7K In the NS-2 send/return to cancel unwanted noise) > NS-2 output to amp. Orange AD200 mk3 head. Orange OBC410 & Orange OBC115 cabs. (Cabs not in play through video).
