ULCERATE – Jamie Saint Merat – “Shrines of Paralysis” for Sick Drummer Magazine

For me, something which makes death metal so awesome is the way that the drums are played with such brutality. When someone smashes through some fast and hard blast beats it awakens something in me a sheer desire to put my face through a wall. Add to that some blisteringly fast double bass pedal and I’m ready to kill someone. I’m sure it’s the same for many of you. That’s why you should check out Jamie Saint Merat’s video for Sick Drummer Magazine as he displays a great mix of technical death metal drumming.

In order to be a good band you need to have a good drummer. In order to be a death metal band you NEED to have a GREAT drummer. Ulcerate definitely have the latter. Check the video below of Jamie tracking drums for the band’s recently released Shrine of Paralysis in which he destroys the drum kit from all angles at break neck speed. His double kicks are next level and so are his blasts, they’re played with fury all the while being extremely tight.

For anybody who has ever tracked drums themselves you’ll know it is a gruelling process. Often repeating parts time after time resulting in fatigue and parts sounding weak. Jamie keeps up his stamina without issue here and it’s impressive, especially considering the speed and technicality that the band’s songs demand.

His set-up consists of-
