Bands like Memphis May Fire are interesting case studies in where we’re currently at in the mainstream metal scene. They seem to be at the forefront of a genre that doesn’t really have a name yet, but is definitely quantifiable; combining the sort of post-Periphery djent riffs, song structures, and breakdowns with the metalcore good cop/bad cop vocal stylings.
I don’t know if I’d ever find myself listening to this (except maybe in the gym along with Oceano). I way prefer nice music in major keys, like easycore.
But maybe you can get down with it. Check out a dual playthrough of the track “Stay the Course” off the band’s new album Unconditional, courtesy Guitar World. Dig that quadruple Mesa cab backline!
