Hailing all the way from Mumbai, India, 22-year-old musician and producer Prateek Rajagopal (Gutslit/The Minvera Conduct) fronts the experimental and prog rock solo HOIA. Enlisting the minds of Colin Edwin (Porcupine Tree) on bass and Wojtek Deregowski on drums, the group is about to release their 3rd EP Scavenger, (out April 19th). And to help spread the word, we’ve teamed up with them to premiere this drum playthrough of the track “Electric Wizard”, only right here, on Gear Gods!
While the drumming for this song is intricate as hell, Deregowski does an amazing job of making it all look so damn easy. Floating effortlessly through the myriad of cymbal hits, groovy sections, and even incorporating some electronic elements, the young Polish musician shows us what he’s really capable of, all without batting an eye. That’s no easy task, especially with this kind of progressive music. And if you’ve left this video wanting to up your drum game, you’re in luck! Deregowski also offers online drum lessons via his website and Facebook.
As for the gear Deregowski used here, the kit is as follows:
- Slingerland 12″, 16″, 22″ (late 70s kit)
- Ludwig Supraphonic 14/5 snare (2015)
- Meinl Cymbals Byzance series cymbals
- Traditional Thin 14″ Hi-Hat
- Extra Dry Thin 20″ Crash (both left and right)
