What Was Up With JOE DUPLANTIER’s ESP During GOJIRA’s Olympic Performance?

Gojira ripped the whole world a new one with their heavy-as-hell performance at the Paris Olympics opening ceremony over the weekend. And while that was a phenomenally moment for the metal world, we gotta talk more specifically about Joe Duplantier’s guitar.

Duplantier has historically rocked a Charvel on stage, while Christian Andreu has always brought the riffs with his signature Jackson. The latter did the same as usual, but the former appears to have some sort of new ESP signature (or custom) model.

ESP and Duplantier haven’t said anything about the shiny silver model yet, though a screengrab from the ESP Instagram account from Guitar World shows the mystery guitar off a little bit. The publication further points out that the guitar in question is a riff on the ESP XJ-1 and clearly offers an Evertune bridge. No word on what that pickup is either.

So stay tuned! Maybe this was a one-off, or maybe there’s more to come from Duplantier and ESP.
