Walrus Audio has announced the Lüm, a limited-edition pedal that blends elements of its most acclaimed ambient boxes – the Slö Reverb, Lore Reverse Reverb, and Fable Granular Generator – into one boundary-pushing unit. Designed to “illuminate your path,” the Lüm is equal parts granular processor and reverb powerhouse, offering players the ability to transform their instrument into shifting, cinematic soundscapes.
At its core, Lüm features three distinct modes:
- Grain Cloud – Dual granular taps read from a feedback delay line, scattering your signal into glitchy, cascading textures. The X knob adjusts grain size, controlling how frequently glitches occur.
- Grain Verb – A granular engine feeding from a reverb tank, producing lush, smeared soundscapes. Perfect for stacking into high-gain pedals for haunting atmospheres.
- Forward Reverse Verb – A forward-running reverb paired with a reverse reverb for playful, rhythmic interplay. The Stretch knob shifts the tempo of interaction, while the X knob controls decay.
Beyond the algorithms, Walrus has packed in expressive performance features. The Momentary Control lets you automate any knob by holding the Moment switch, gliding toward a target value in real time. Players can also fine-tune the ramp time (10ms, 1000ms, or 5000ms) for smooth or dramatic sweeps. A global Stretch Engine shifts the entire sample rate between 0.5x and 2x, reshaping grain size, decay, and tonal color in surprising ways.
For live flexibility, Lüm includes three onboard presets (Red, Green, Blue) with seamless crossfading for uninterrupted transitions between sounds. Users can also toggle between Trails mode for natural reverb decay or Instant Cut mode for rhythmic precision.
