Once a staple of the solidbody lineup from the late 1970s through the late ’80s, Guild has revived one of its most distinctive electric guitars – the Guild S-300. Except now it’s the Guild S-300 Deluxe.
At its core, the S-300 Deluxe remains a solidbody crafted from Mahogany with a deeply contoured (and instantly recognizable) shape. The neck is also Mahogany, set into the body and carved into a Vintage Soft U profile. The guitar is rounded out with a 12.5″ radius, 24.75″ scale length and a 24-fret fingerboard made from Indian Rosewood.
Under the hood, the S-300 is powered by a pair of HB-2+ humbuckers at the bridge and neck positions. These Alnico V-driven pickups are voiced for versatility, delivering everything from glassy cleans to saturated, mid-forward crunch.
Control-wise, players get individual Volume and Tone knobs for each pickup, a 3-way selector, and the return of the original 2-way phase switch. That last detail is key, offering those hollow, nasal, out-of-phase textures that defined so many experimental tones of the original era.
Then there’s the hardware. A redesigned Ultimate Angle Tune-o-matic bridge works with a compensated tailpiece to improve intonation stability and sustain, while Grover G2 tuners handle tuning duties up top with rock-solid reliability – even under heavy stage use or aggressive string bending.
Visually, the reissue sharpens the S-300 identity. The familiar Guild Top Hat knobs remain, along with the 5-ply pickguard and black pickup plates. The Chesterfield headstock emblem is still proudly in place, anchoring the instrument in its lineage.
But there are meaningful refinements. Ivory binding outlines the fingerboard, now fitted with elegant pearloid block inlays instead of the original dots. The finish also steps into modern territory with a sleek metallic sheen that gives the guitar a more aggressive presence under lights.
