PRS Guitars has kicked off 2025 with a new twist on its iconic bolt-on design: the CE 24 Special, a limited-edition model boasting a humbucker/single coil/humbucker configuration – a first for the CE platform. Only 1,500 will be produced, making this a rare blend of familiar CE punch and expanded tonal possibilities.
Where the standard CE 24 ships with a pair of PRS 85/15 humbuckers, the CE 24 Special slots a PRS NS-01 single coil into the middle position. This pickup, lifted straight from the Modern Eagle V, pairs with a 5-way selector to deliver a wider tonal palette, including the scooped, glassy sounds that traditional triple-pickup guitars are famous for.
Chuck Lenderking, PRS Guitars Product Manager, sums it up: “With the CE 24 Special, you get all the iconic tones you expect from a CE. But now, with the middle pickup from the Modern Eagle V added to the mix, you can easily dial in the classic scooped tones… Thanks to the tonal range of the 85/15 humbuckers, the CE 24 Special offers even more warmth and versatility than some historic models with a similar setup.”
True to the CE lineage, the Special sports a bolt-on maple neck for snappy attack and enhanced resonance, paired with PRS’s Pattern Thin profile and a smooth satin finish for fast, comfortable playability.
