PRS Guitars has announced four new color options for its SE Silver Sky Rosewood, the popular signature model created in collaboration with Grammy‑winning guitarist John Mayer. The fresh finishes — Derby Red, Trad Blue, Laurel Green, and Dandy Lion — are making their debut on a PRS guitar for the first time.
According to Mayer, the colors were chosen with an eye toward timeless appeal. “The new Silver Sky SE lineup features four new colors inspired by traditional American fashion. These are time‑tested hues that have been popular through decades, and I’m excited to share them with the world as the latest SE colorways,” he says.
The SE Silver Sky is a more accessible take on the original USA‑made Silver Sky introduced in 2018. It features a Poplar body, bolt‑on Maple neck, and Rosewood fingerboard with PRS’s trademark bird inlays. The neck retains the 635JM carve favored by Mayer and sports a 22‑fret, 25.5″ scale length layout with an 8.5″ fretboard radius for a familiar feel under the fingers.
Electronics are built around a set of three 635JM “S” single‑coil pickups voiced to deliver the guitar’s signature chime and clarity. Hardware includes a two‑point steel tremolo, synthetic bone nut, and vintage‑style tuners, providing a mix of modern stability and traditional character.
Alongside the Rosewood model update, PRS is also expanding the finish options for the SE Silver Sky Maple. Two colors previously exclusive to the Rosewood‑equipped version — Summit Purple and Nylon Blue — are now available on the Maple‑neck model, joining Moon White and Stone Blue in the refreshed lineup.
The addition of new finishes underscores PRS’s ongoing effort to keep the SE Silver Sky series fresh while maintaining its established build and tonal formula. The model’s balance of familiar Strat‑style ergonomics with PRS’s refinement has made it a strong contender in the single‑coil bolt‑on market since its introduction.
