Novo has just released their brand new, very vintage-looking Idris RS model alongside guitar overlord Rhett Shull. The Idris RS is inspired by the Coodercaster guitar and was originally meant to have a goldfoil pickup in the neck position and a lapsteel guitar pickup in the bridge position. That didn’t quite work out, so there are two Novo Gold Foil by Lollar loaded in there instead.
On the swap, Novo offered: “The design was changed to double goldfoils when the feedback from the lapsteel pickup proved to be too much. That design pivot meant that the large cavity that was routed into the guitar body for the lapsteel had to be mostly covered, which turned into a cool design feature of this model, unique from other Novo models in their standard lines.”
The Idris RS further features a Swamp Ash body, Tempered Maple “C”-shaped neck with Rosewood fingerboard, and 22 Jescar medium frets. In keeping with the vintage look, the Idris RS has a thin nitrocellulose lacquer finish, parchment chickenhead knobs, and white switch tip.
