If you’ve ever wanted the guitar equivalent of the a van with a wizard painted on the side of it, Minarik has you covered. Minarik, known for their entirely outlandish designs, has teamed up with the legendary Heavy Metal publication to create the The Heavy Metal Custom Guitar.
The guitar was built to commemorate the 1981 Heavy Metal animated movie. The guitar was designed by Incendium and features artwork inked by Matt Skiff and airbrushed by Craig Fraser (known for his work with Iron Maiden). For extra wizard van points, the entire guitar is covered in a bolted steel effect of metallic plates and rivets on the back and sides. The thing practically blasts “Tom Sawyer” by Rush without ever having to actually do it, and thankfully forgoes the shag carpeting.
“The illustrious legacy of Heavy Metal is no better represented than by a custom guitar to celebrate this momentous occasion,” said Matthew Medney, CEO of Heavy Metal Entertainment. “Balancing art and music along with counter culture is and has been our ethos for these 40 years.”
“This is the first time we’re offering an individually hand-built, painted and crafted product – the resulting instrument is truly a work of art!” added Llexi Leon, CEO of Incendium.
“It’s a great privilege to be working with the tremendous luthiers, airbrush artists, inlay experts, technicians, and more under the guidance of Marc of Minarik to pull this ambitious vision together. As a player and collector myself, I’m beyond thrilled.”
Guitar-wise, The Heavy Metal Custom Guitar features a Honduran Mahogany body with a Hard Maple neck and Figured Ebony fretboard. The fretboard is covered in Taarna’s war blade, which is made from “hundreds of pieces of Abalone, Acrylic, Aluminum, Brass, Mother of Pearl, and Stone.” Then there’s a DiMarzio AT-1 in the bridge and DiMarzio Gravity Storm in the neck
The Heavy Metal Custom Guitar is made to order and can be yours for $19,666.
