MESA/Boogie recently unveiled their new MESA/Boogie Subway+ Bass DI Preamp II, and now we’ve got a full-on demo to go with it! Not that I ever doubted MESA/Boogie’s ability to bring the beef, but y’know – demos are fun.

Built as the next evolution of the Subway D-800 series, the Subway+ DI-Preamp II delivers MESA’s signature tone in a chassis roughly 40% smaller than before.
At its core is an extended-range J-FET preamp designed to respond naturally with both active and passive basses. The layout includes a dedicated Gain control to shape input response, a Master Volume, and a footswitchable Boost with its own level control for higher-output tones on demand.
Low-end control is a standout feature, with a variable Hi-Pass Filter (30–150 Hz) that removes subsonic rumble, tightens the bass response, and improves overall clarity.
For quick tonal adjustments, Deep and Bright switches are included, along with a Variable Voicing control that sweeps from a modern, flat response to a more vintage-inspired contour.
A fully active 4-band Baxandall EQ provides ±12 dB of control across Bass, Low Mid, High Mid, and Treble, with sweepable mid frequencies for precise shaping.
Aux In and Headphone Out make silent practice easy, while multiple output options – including 1/4″ unbalanced, 1/4″ TRS balanced, and a balanced XLR DI with Pre/Post EQ switching and Ground Lift – ensure flexibility for both stage and studio use.
