MESA/Boogie has teamed up with MESA artist Doug Weiand (Death Dealer Union, Edge of Paradise, etc.) for a brand new demo of the John Petrucci signature JP-2C.
Watch as Weiand puts the JP-2C through its paces using an 8-string guitar, revealing just how effortlessly this amp handles extended-range clarity, crushing gain, and ultra-tight response.
At its core, the JP-2C is a next-generation evolution of the legendary Mark IIC+, one of the most sought-after high-gain amps ever built. Unlike other MESA designs that pull from multiple circuit families, the JP-2C stays laser-focused. All three channels are dedicated exclusively to variations of the IIC+ architecture, ensuring tonal consistency while expanding its range.
The amp offers three channels:
- The Clean channel delivers massive headroom and pristine articulation, even under complex chord voicings. It’s glassy without being sterile, full.
- The Crunch channel brings rhythm tones into focus—tight, percussive, and grinding, with access to gain levels that blur the line between rhythm and lead.
- Then there’s the Lead channel. Saturated, fluid, and incredibly responsive, it tracks every nuance of your playing, from rapid-fire picking to soaring legato lines.
A newly introduced Shred Mode takes things even further, enhancing top-end harmonic layering and pushing the classic IIC+ lead voice into more aggressive, modern territory. In the demo setup, the JP-2C is paired with a Maestro Discoverer Delay in the effects loop and captured using a single Shure SM57.
