Joshua Kost of New Miserable Experience has dropped a gripping new guitar play-through video for “Infinite Sadness,” a track taken from the band’s recently released album Gild The Lily.
Equal parts crushing and cinematic, the performance highlights the group’s unique ability to reshape heavy-music rigor into something far more expansive — melody-forward alternative synth-rock that feels both futuristic and emotionally raw.
At the center of the playthrough is Kost’s Ibanez AZ Prestige Guitar, a platform built for precision and versatility. Known for its slick feel and articulate response, it’s the perfect match for the layered textures and sharp-edged clarity that “Infinite Sadness” demands.
The signal chain balances boutique punch with modern studio flexibility. Dynamics are kept tight and controlled with an EBS Multi Comp, while Earthquaker Devices Plumes adds the kind of mid-focused drive that can push riffs into soaring, harmonically rich territory. An Ibanez Ge1O eq shapes the final contour, fine-tuning the mix of aggression and atmosphere before everything hits the digital realm.
From there, the setup moves into Ableton 11, where the track’s production and performance polish come together, paired with Neural DSP Tone King Imperial MKII for a bold, responsive amp voice that bridges vintage warmth with modern edge. The result is a tone that feels massive yet defined, sitting perfectly in the band’s hybrid world of heaviness and synth-laced melody.
New Miserable Experience themselves are a Philadelphia-rooted collective with serious pedigree. What began as a file-trading collaboration between vocalist and bassist David Grossman (ex-Rosetta) and multi-instrumentalist Joshua Mahesh Kost (Model Prisoner) quickly evolved into a full-scale band. The lineup now features Rosetta drummer Bruce “B.J.” McMurtrie Jr., technical-metal bassist Brett Bamberger (ex-Revocation), and guitarist Brody Uttley (Rivers of Nihil), forming a powerhouse roster that brings both experimental ambition and razor-sharp musicianship.
