IZOTOPE Launches FXEQ: Multi-FX Processing With Surgical Frequency Control

iZotope has unveiled FXEQ, a powerful new plugin that fuses equalization and multi-effects processing in a single, frequency-targetable interface. Instead of applying effects globally across an entire signal, FXEQ lets users assign specific effects to individual EQ bands — cutting down on complex routing and offering unprecedented control over sound design.

FXEQ is part of iZotope’s Catalyst Series and brings a clean, visually-driven workflow to creative producers and engineers. At its core is a six-band graphical EQ where each band can be assigned its own custom combination of five effect types: saturation, reverb, delay, modulation, and lo-fi. This frequency-aware effects design opens up detailed sound shaping that would normally require parallel chains or external routing.

What sets FXEQ apart isn’t the number of effects, but how surgically and musically they can be deployed. Each effect type has its own dedicated frequency curves, allowing you, for example, to add reverb only to the top end of a vocal, or saturate a midrange pocket in a drum loop — without bleeding into the rest of the spectrum. This results in a cleaner, more controlled mix, particularly with complex material.

Each of the five modules offers multiple character types and smart design choices. The saturation section includes eight styles, ranging from gentle harmonic enhancement to aggressive crunch. The reverb module offers three room-inspired colorations to create space without smearing the entire signal. Delay brings four rhythmic styles to the table, while modulation and lo-fi add texture, wobble, and vintage degradation as needed.

To keep levels under control, FXEQ includes a built-in limiter that prevents clipping and operates with zero latency – critical for real-time performance and efficient studio work. Combined with the intuitive interface, FXEQ feels more like a creative instrument than a utility plugin, encouraging experimentation and fast results.

For producers working in genres that demand both punch and polish – like electronic music, indie rock, film scoring, and modern pop – FXEQ is especially useful. It offers a middle ground between complex multi-bus FX chains and one-size-fits-all insert plugins. By applying effect modules precisely to where they’re needed, you can enhance clarity, control buildup, and emphasize specific musical elements without over-processing.

FXEQ is now available through iZotope and integrates tightly with the rest of the Catalyst Series. For anyone interested in frequency-conscious sound design, this plugin is a forward-thinking tool that bridges EQ precision with rich effect layering. Whether you’re tweaking a vocal, designing ambient textures, or reshaping a drum kit, FXEQ is built to deliver creative results without slowing down your workflow.
