IBANEZ Unveils 7- And 8-String Nylon Classical Acoustic Guitars

At a glance, these guitars stay true to tradition. A Solid German Spruce top forms the tonal centerpiece, delivering clear, balanced projection with the kind of responsiveness classical players expect. Paired with Mahogany back and sides, the result is a warm, rounded character that supports everything from delicate fingerstyle passages to full, expressive chord work.

Both models feature an extended 20-fret Rosewood fingerboard, giving players more room to explore the upper register. Combined with a shallow-sloped Venetian Cutaway, upper fret access becomes far more approachable than on traditional classical designs.

One of the biggest hurdles in extended-range classical guitars is playability. Wider necks and additional strings can feel cumbersome — but the GA Series is engineered to ease that transition. The single-cut body design not only enhances access but also contributes to a more ergonomic playing experience.

Hardware choices reinforce that sense of reliability. Gold Classical tuning machines provide stable, precise tuning, while a Rosewood bridge and Bone nut and saddle ensure consistent tone transfer and sustain. These are traditional elements, executed with modern precision.

Visually, the GA Series strikes a refined balance between elegance and stage-ready appeal. A Classical Mosaic rosette, Mahogany binding, and an elegantly carved headstock give the guitars a timeless aesthetic.

Though where the GA Series truly separates itself from traditional classical guitars is in its electronics. Each model is equipped with a Fishman AEQ-SP2 preamp system, designed to translate the instrument’s natural acoustic voice into amplified environments with clarity and realism.

Developed by Fishman, the system includes controls for Bass, Treble, and Master Volume, allowing players to tailor their tone to different venues or recording situations. An onboard tuner adds another layer of practicality, ensuring you’re always ready to perform.

Get the Ibanez GA Cutaway Classical 7- and 8- string here for $999 and $1,099, respectively. You can also keep up with all our Ibanez coverage right here!
