Ibanez continues to lead the headless bass movement with the EHB1135MS, a cutting-edge 5-string that combines ergonomic comfort with boutique-level specs. Designed for players who demand both clarity and punch across extended ranges, this bass thrives on stage, in the studio, and everywhere in between. You can check it out below thanks to a pretty slap-happy new demo featuring Riccardo Oliva.
The EHB1135MS features a 9-piece Panga Panga/Walnut neck reinforced with graphite rods for rock-solid stability. Paired with a bound Panga Panga fingerboard adorned with offset abalone inlays, it delivers smooth playability across its 24 medium stainless steel frets. The ash-topped okoume body keeps things lightweight and resonant, while the headless design maximizes balance and eliminates neck dive.
Tone comes courtesy of dual Bartolini BH2 pickups wired to Ibanez’s versatile Vari-Mid 3-band EQ with an EQ bypass switch and passive tone control. This setup gives bassists surgical control over their sound, from deep, growling lows to crisp, articulate highs. The extended 35″–33″ multi-scale design tightens the low B while keeping the higher strings effortlessly playable.
Hardware is equally dialed in: the MR5HS bridge with 18mm string spacing offers precise intonation, smooth adjustability, and excellent sustain. Out of the box, the bass ships with D’Addario EXL170-5SL strings (.045–.130) in standard 5-string tuning, ready to handle everything from progressive metal to funk fusion.
