IBANEZ Goes Low With Their New Artcore Baritone Model

Ibanez is clearly aiming this AS Artcore at players who like to live below standard tuning but still want the feel and look of a classic semi-hollow. With a 28″ Scale Length, beefy strings, and a familiar AS body shape, this guitar balances comfort with authority in a way that feels surprisingly natural.

The body sticks to proven tonewoods, with a Linden Top, Back, and Sides keeping things resonant and lightweight. It is paired with a Set-In 3pc Nyatoh/Maple Neck, a combo that adds punchy mid-lows and plenty of sustain. Dimension-wise, it feels instantly recognizable to AS fans, but the extended scale gives the strings the tension they need to stay tight and defined.

Playability is classic Ibanez. The Bound Rosewood Fretboard with Acrylic Block Inlays, 22 Medium Frets, and a comfortable 305mm Radius make everything from chunky riffs to extended chords feel easy. The neck profile stays manageable, even with the wider feel up high, and never gets in the way.

Hardware is built for stability. The Gibraltar Performer Bridge and VT06 Tailpiece, finished in Chrome, keep tuning locked in and add noticeable sustain, while the low-profile saddles make long sessions more comfortable on the picking hand.

Electronics are handled by a pair of Classic Elite Humbuckers with a Ceramic, Passive design. They deliver a fat low end, clear mids, and enough nuance to handle clean and driven tones without turning muddy. Factory tuning lands at B–F#–D–A–E–B, strung up with D’Addario EXL157 heavy-gauge strings, which really lets the long scale shine.
