I wrote the theme song for the world’s BIGGEST metal cruise

I’m a guy who loves writing from a prompt, and weirdly also loves commercial jingles – but also metal. So when the 70000TONS OF METAL concert cruise, which I have been on 6 times now, asked me to write them an official theme song, I jumped at the opportunity.

If you’ve never been on a concert cruise before, let me tell you – it’s the best time you’ll ever have. It makes me wonder why anyone would ever go on a regular cruise – what do you even do? Shuffleboard? On 70000TONS you can play shuffleboard AND watch 60 amazing metal bands.

The only thing was – it was a week before the cruise left in January. So I had to sit down and bang out a symphonic metal banger in no time flat. In fact, I didn’t even have all the lyrics finished by the time I left, I had to finish them on the boat!

Watch the whole story of how the song came to be and how we recorded the singers on the ship as well as the choirs of cruise-goers on the boat in the video above (premiering at 10am PST/7pm CET on Thursday Aug 8) and stream the song here.

As Editor-in-Chief of Gear Gods, I've been feeding your sick instrument fetishism and trying unsuccessfully to hide my own since 2013. I studied music on both coasts (Berklee and SSU) and now I'm just trying to put my degree to some use. That's a music degree, not an English one. I'm sure you noticed.
