Ernie Ball Music Man teamed up with Darkglass Electronics to make probably the grittiest bass this side of heavy tone. The duo came up with the DarkRay 4 string bass, which features a 2 Band EQ preamp designed by Darkglass Electronics. The premap offers a clean tone, a distortion tone named Alpha, and a fuzz tone named Omega. Both distortion circuits are fully mixable via an onboard gain knob and blend control, and a bright LED ring and 3-way lever switch indicate which mode the bass is in.
The DarkRay 4 features a roasted maple neck, ebony fingerboard with stainless steel frets, and matte black hardware bolted on to a comfort contoured body. It’s also worth noting that the bolt-on neck features a special Darkglass neck plate, should you have forgotten why your bass sounds like a dump truck driving through a nitroglycerine plant. Topped off with a classic neodymium humbucker pickup and yeah, this thing is ready to annihilate worlds.
The DarkRay 4 is available in Obsidian Black from Sweetwater here for $2,499, and Granite Stone for $2,699 here via Ernie Ball themselves. Act fast though, because these tools of tonal destruction are limited!
