Strandberg has brought back their classic Varberg model for the first time since 2013 and it’s as gorgeous as ever.
The Varberg J 6 features a Bolt-On construction and a layered body crafted from Mahogany and Alder, topped with a solid slab of Maple for a crisp tonal response and elegant aesthetic. It’s available in Natural Satin, Pacific Blue Satin, and Amber Haze Satin finishes.
The Varberg J 6 comes equipped with the Strandberg EGS Rev7 hardtail bridge and string locks, providing outstanding tuning stability and resonance. Its black anodized hardware gives the guitar a sleek, modern look, while original Luminlay green side dots and inlays ensure excellent fretboard visibility even in low-light stage settings.
As for the neck and frets, you’ll find a premium build using Wenge with Purpleheart fillet reinforcements, shaped into Strandberg‘s signature EndurNeck profile for long playing sessions made comfortable. The Indian Rosewood fretboard features a 20″ radius for fast, flat action and 24 frets.
“The Varberg is back,” said Ola Strandberg. “This model originally started its life as more of a concept guitar and a design challenge I set for myself. I wanted to create something that was both ergonomic and visually interesting, but without any 3D carving on the body itself. This is the result.
“I built a handful of these early on, back when the project was called Made to Measure, and I made them in my garage. Later, we produced them at the Washburn Custom Shop in Chicago. These guitars became Paul Masvidal’s original Masvidalian signature model, and they also produced one or two branded under the name Varberg.
“We then made roughly 40 of these in the Swedish custom shop, all of which went to Japan. So we’re very excited to bring the Varberg back again for all of you. However, they will be released in extremely limited quantities.”
