The good people at DW Drums have just announced the addition of the new Dave Grohl “Sound City” ICON Snare Drum! The limited-edition snare celebrates the legendary drummer’s career, in addition to his connection to the Sound City recording studio in Los Angeles and Studio 606. It might be hard to believe that a drummer as iconic as Dave Grohl has yet to have a signature snare, but better late than never!
The ICON snare features a wood inlay silhouette of Grohl, his feather tattoos, and a tribute to both Sound City and Studio 606, which are made from 1/36″ veneers of black pear and sycamore wood. It’s crafted from 11-plies of North American hard rock maple with VLT grain orientation technology and includes some beautiful nickel-plated hardware. It comes fitted with True-Hoops, True-Pitch 50 Tuning, True-Tone Snare Wires, MAG throw-off with 3P butt plate, and DW Heads by Remo. And last but certainly not least, it also comes with a Deluxe DW carrying case, certificate of authenticity, and Sound City hat.
From DW drum designer John Good:
“We’d been waiting a long time to present this special project to Dave. When he saw the drum for the first time, we couldn’t have asked for a more amazing reaction. We finally get to share this with the world, and we know his fans will appreciate the thought and effort put into this very special ICON drum.”
And of course, Dave Grohl had this to say:
“I’d like to thank everybody at DW, as this is something that blows my mind. I’ve never had my own snare drum before, and this is pretty beautiful.”
