Cold As Ice: Ibanez Unveils New Frozen Finish SR Standard Basses

Ibanez has been on a kick lately of releasing new finishes. We got a whole new color palette for the Tim Henson acoustic series, we got a Gold Iceman, and now we’ve got some basses! The Ibanez SR Standard just got a fairly cold makeover – or at least the SR300EDX and SR305EDX did.

The Ibanez SR Standard series now features the SR300EDX in Frozen Gold Matte and Frozen Black Glacier Matte (which looks white to me) finishes, while the SR305EDX got the Frozen Gold Matte finish only.

The SR300EDX goes for $479.99 right here at Sweetwater, while the SR305EDX goes for $529.99 right here also at Sweetwater.

One of the SR series’ defining traits has always been player comfort, and both models stay true to that philosophy. The SR300EDX features Ibanez’s slim SR4 neck profile, while the SR305EDX sports the equally streamlined SR5 profile for five-string players.

Each bass is built around a sturdy 5-piece Maple/Walnut neck that offers excellent stability while maintaining the slim feel that makes fast passages, string skipping, and extended playing sessions remarkably effortless.

The sculpted Nyatoh body is another standout feature. Lightweight and comfortably contoured, it sits naturally against the player whether standing or seated, allowing unrestricted access across the fretboard.

Both the SR300EDX and SR305EDX are equipped with a pair of Ibanez PowerSpan Dual Coil pickups molded by an active 3-band EQ. The real ace up the sleeve, however, is Ibanez’s 3-way Power Tap switch.

Rather than limiting players to a single pickup voice, it provides three distinct operating modes: full humbucking for maximum output, single-coil operation for added clarity and bite, and a blended mode that combines elements of both.
