Catalinbread is back with two brand new, gritty pedals as part of their StarCrash ’70s Collection – the StarCrash Fuzz and SideArm Overdrive.
The StarCrash Fuzz is modeled after the ’70s Fuzz Face pedals with a few modifications. Gone is the fuzz knob so you can just run it full tilt all the time, and present is the Bias control, also known as a “dying battery simulator.” This starves the second transistor of voltage and lets you dial in the right amount of texture, from raw and brawny to lean and harmonically rich. There’s also a Low-Cut control that cuts the bass frequencies from 40Hz to 500Hz with the turn of a knob.
Then there’s the SideArm Overdrive, which is a take of the 1979 “Green Overdrive.” The SideArm Overdrive accentuates the new Mids control and the overhauled Tone knob, while the “hump frequency” sits at 1KHz, but the mids control sits at the typical “green” frequency of 720Hz, letting you boost or cut this band at will for a more customizable tone. The Tone control boosts lows and cuts highs when turned down, and sits centered at 1KHz.
Both the StarCrash Fuzz and SideArm Overdrive are available here for $149.99 each.
