In anticipation of his upcoming solo release Eikasia under the Mestis name, Animals As Leaders guitarist Javier Reyes has just released the very first single from the album, entitled “El Mestizo” (meaning “culturally mixed” [gracias, Wikipedia]). Combining some dope-as-hell electric piano with Reyes’ signature Spanish-style guitar playing, the track gives the listener a wonderful idea of what to expect on the album. The song also features drummer extraordinaire Eric Moore behind the kit (formerly of Suicidal Tendencies), and the man absolutely slays the ongoing groove and complex rhythms that the other instrumentation brings to the table. An absolute proggy banger.
