We recently sat down with Olly Steele of UK progressive metal band Monuments to talk about all things song/riff-writing, and MAN does he have some ideas. Olly breaks down his process of writing riffs based off chord progressions, by reinforcing decision-making and thinking about all the different choices and options you have as a guitarist. If you’re anything like me, this lesson is a breath of fresh air for what can sometimes feel like a nebulous, directionless concept if you don’t know how to get started.
