NAMM 2015 – Bartolini Pickups Continues to Crank Out New Pickup Ideas

Holy hell Bartolini makes quite a few pickups. Like a whole bunch. You might get the impression that it’s something they’re known for. We got a tour of their NAMM booth which had as much of an emphasis on their guitar pickups as the bass ones that I’m much more familiar with.

What’s cool for this year is that they have some single-coil soapbars, called Singularity. As a metal guy who plays my bass using only the bridge pickup and routed through a decent amount of distortion I’m kind of curious to see how such a setup would work out with a set of single soaps. I’ve always used humbuckers because of the size of my pickups slots.

Chris Alfano has written about music and toured in bands since print magazines and mp3.com were popular. Once in high-school he hacked a friend's QBasic stick figure fighting game to add a chiptune metal soundtrack. Random attractive people still give him high-fives about that.
