Watch John Carpenter Perform Escape From New York Theme

I haven’t had a chance to fully delve into the new John Carpenter album, Lost Themes II, his follow-up to last year’s awesome Lost Themes. Like many of you, I’m a huge Carpenter fan, and have been sad to see how difficult it is for him to secure the right kind of financing and control necessary to make more movies. The Ward was pretty good, not a great movie but a proper Carpenter one, and miles ahead of dreg that the media creams itself to like It FollowsThe Babadook, etc.

But the thing is, movies are expensive and hard to make. Albums are easy. And for someone like Carpenter, who basically spends his days playing Call of Duty and watching the NBA, an easy situation is the best one to promote creativity. Jamming with his son and some friends in a basement? Doesn’t get looser than that.

So it’s pretty awesome to hear that next month, Carp & co are putting out another release, a “redux” of live performances of some of his most iconic film scores, including Escape From New YorkHalloweenThe Fog, and Assault on Precinct 13. Yeah, you read that right. There’s also already a performance video, which Carpenter himself directed, of the Escape theme. Watch it below and keep your eyes peeled to Sacred Bones Records for pre-orders.

Indeed, just waiting to see which Carpenter film will they exhume and rape next. Maybe a mullet sporting Hemsworth browsing Facebook on his iPhone, complete with a CGI New York, occasionally shooting random transgenders in a politically accebtable fashion.

Soundtrack provided by whoever is responsible for Miley Cyrus.
