Vancouver’s very own Matt Chanway is someone we’ve covered here on Gear Gods before, and now the talented Guitar Idol finalist is back with a new guitar playthrough for his latest single “Unrelenting”! The hot new track will be dropping everywhere February 19th, so mark your calendars and buckle up for this exclusive guitar playthrough, only right here, on Gear Gods!
For fans of artists like Animals As Leaders, Scale the Summit, and Plini, “Unrelenting” showcases all of Matt’s various technical guitar abilities. From angular, dissonant riffs and pummeling rhythms to all manner of lead shredding, the track is jam-packed with all kinds of prog goodness and is undoubtedly sure to please fans of the genre. See what Matt had to say about the track below!
“On this tune, I used a simple but effective home recording setup to get the sounds we hear. I used an Ibanez RG1550mv for both the rhythms and leads – a very underrated guitar, with an alder body giving the tones almost a strat-like sound at times. All of the guitar tones are courtesy of the amazing Fractal Audio FM-3, plugged directly into a Focusrite Scarlett audio interface. I tried experimenting with some different chord voicings and modes for the riffs, melodies, and solos, and overall am pretty pleased with the result. Hope you enjoy listening!”
