SOLAR GUITARS New AP Model Offers Up A Sustainiac Pickup, Very Green Finish

Solar Guitars recently rolled out their AP Series, and they’re making it a hell of a lot greener thanks to the new Type AP1.6FRGNG Sustainiac+.

The foundation starts with an Alder body paired to a set-thru Maple neck, delivering a balance of punch, clarity, and sustain. The 25.5” scale length keeps things tight and articulate, particularly for modern high-gain playing styles.

That fast, thin neck profile is built for speed, topped with an Ebony fingerboard loaded with 24 super-jumbo stainless steel frets. Add in Luminlay glow-in-the-dark side dots, and you’ve got a fretboard that stays visible even under the worst stage lighting conditions.

The real headline feature here is the Sustainiac Stealth Pro system in the neck position. Functioning as both a single-coil pickup and a built-in sustainer, it allows players to achieve infinite sustain, harmonic feedback, and controlled overtone manipulation at the flip of a switch.

At the bridge, a Duncan Solar+ Alnico VIII humbucker delivers the muscle—tight low end, aggressive mids, and a cutting top that holds together under extreme gain. A three-way blade switch keeps things intuitive, while the Sustainiac system expands the guitar’s expressive range far beyond traditional pickup configurations.

Stability is key in a performance instrument, and Solar doesn’t cut corners here. The Gotoh 1996T tremolo system—crafted from hardened steel with an oversized block—maximizes sustain and resonance while maintaining rock-solid tuning stability. Mechanically muted tremolo springs reduce unwanted noise, keeping your signal clean even under heavy use.

Wrap all that up in a Green Neon Gloss finish, and you’ve got yourself something dangerous… or at least cool looking. Get the Solar Guitars Type AP1.6FRGNG Sustainiac+ here for $1,299 and keep up with all our Solar Guitars coverage right here.
