ROLAND Announces V-Drums 3 and 5 Series

Roland has announced the V-Drums 3 and 5 Series, two all-new electronic drum kit lineups centered around the next-generation V31 and V51 sound modules.

These models join the flagship V71 from the V-Drums 7 Series to form a unified ecosystem that, for the first time, delivers complete cross-compatibility across all V-Drums modules. With shared sound engines and expansion options, drummers can now access the same high-quality sounds developed for the V-Drums 7 Series while expanding their creative potential through Roland Cloud and DW Soundworks.

Building upon the success of the V-Drums 7 Series, which debuted in 2024, the new V31 and V51 modules feature the same internal sound engine as the V71. Created in collaboration with Drum Workshop (DW), these modules provide drummers with identical core sounds, editing tools, and expansion capabilities, ensuring a seamless experience across the entire V-Drums family. Each sound has been crafted from hand-selected premium drum sets, offering an extraordinary level of realism, detail, and punch.

The combination of multi-layer sampling and round-robin randomization eliminates the mechanical “machine-gun” effect often heard in digital instruments, while Roland’s proprietary behavior modeling refines every nuance of performance. When paired with Roland’s latest digital pads, this technology produces over sixteen thousand variations in dynamic response, achieving a level of expression that feels entirely natural.

The V-Drums 3, 5, and 7 Series modules integrate effortlessly with Roland Cloud and DW Soundworks, giving players two ways to create and perform—through the onboard sound libraries or via computer-based software. Each module includes six months of Roland Cloud Ultimate membership, granting access to DW Soundworks, V-Drums Instrument Expansions, curated Kit Packs, and a wide selection of downloadable content.

Built-in wireless adapters allow drummers to browse and install new sounds directly through the Roland Cloud Connect app, while firmware updates can be installed seamlessly without cables. Bluetooth audio and MIDI functionality enable users to jam along with their favorite songs or practice with video lessons, and the onboard USB audio/MIDI interface supports multichannel recording with DAWs and full integration with DW Soundworks. Editor software for macOS and Windows will also be available later in 2025 for the V31 and V51 modules.

Roland’s commitment to connectivity and user control continues with the forthcoming V-Drums Play app for iOS and Android, scheduled for release in late 2025. The app will allow drummers to adjust key module functions such as kit selection, metronome settings, and onboard recording directly from their smartphones.

For optimal positioning and convenience, Roland will also offer the RSH-10 Smartphone Holder, a rugged and adjustable mount designed to withstand intense playing sessions. Each module includes comprehensive sound editing and processing tools, as well as an integrated coach mode for guided practice. Purchasers will also receive Drum Pass, a Roland-exclusive bundle of one hundred Melodics interactive lessons tailored specifically for V-Drums players.

The V-Drums 5 Series is designed for serious drummers who demand professional-grade performance both on stage and in the studio. Each kit in the 5 Series lineup is powered by the V51 module, offering full digital pad compatibility and expanded input and output options. At the top of the range, the VAD516 V-Drums Acoustic Design kit combines the authentic look and feel of a traditional acoustic drum set with Roland’s most advanced digital technology.

This five-piece kit features a PD-14DSX digital snare, CY-18DR ride, and VH-14D hi-hat, all enhanced with high-resolution triggering for unmatched responsiveness. Its striking Midnight Sparkle finish complements dual rack toms, a floor tom, and the new KD-20-MS kick drum, which shares the same advanced trigger system found in the flagship KD-22.

The TD516 offers a refined mid-tier option with the PD-140DS snare, CY-18DR ride, VH-14D hi-hat, and KD-12 kick pad, delivering a professional playing experience at a more accessible price point. The TD513 provides an affordable entry into the 5 Series, pairing high-end tone with a compact, streamlined design that includes a PD-12P snare, enhanced tom pads, and the new MDS-Standard 3 stand for maximum stability and customization.

For players seeking compact versatility without sacrificing sound quality, the V-Drums 3 Series brings advanced Roland expression and flexibility to smaller, practice-friendly setups. Each kit features the V31 module and includes a dedicated digital trigger input for future expansion with Roland’s digital snare, ride, or hi-hat pads.

The VAD316 offers the most acoustic-style experience in the 3 Series, featuring a 12-inch PDA-120LS snare, shallow wood-shell toms, and a full-size KD-18-BK kick drum that combines traditional aesthetics with modern volume control.

The TD316 provides a balance between realism and compactness, incorporating a PD-12P snare, upgraded toms, realistic cymbal pads, and the new MDS-Compact 2 stand for flexible positioning. The TD313 serves as an ideal entry point for home practice or studio sessions, with a PDX-12 snare, upgraded toms, and a responsive KD-10 kick pad that delivers a satisfying and authentic playing feel.
