Musician’s Friend Returns as a Premium Gear Outlet for Cheaper Prices

Hey, Musician’s Friend is back! Again.

Guitar Center has officially relaunched Musician’s Friend as a dedicated off-price outlet for premium musical gear. The updated platform is designed to consolidate overstock, open-box returns, and select excess inventory into a single, continuously rotating destination for discounted instruments and studio equipment. So if you’re looking for anything excellent at a (probably) affordable price, here’s your opportunity.

Musician’s Friend is live now and features thousands of deals spanning guitars, digital pianos, drums, recording gear, keyboards, live sound systems, and DJ equipment, with discounts reaching up to 45 percent and, in some cases, extending into thousands of dollars in savings on higher-end items.

Inventory is being sourced directly through manufacturer partnerships – a structure that includes major industry names such as Gibson, Fender, PRS Guitars, Yamaha, Epiphone, Ibanez, Alesis, and Shure. According to the company, this direct pipeline is intended to create a more controlled and transparent channel for excess inventory while maintaining separation from full-price retail distribution.

The return of the “Stupid Deal of the Day” is also pretty great. The feature continues its original format of a single heavily discounted item each day, reinforcing the site’s shift toward fast-moving, high-attention deal cycling rather than static browsing.

“Premium gear gets discounted somewhere,” said Guitar Center CEO Gabe Dalporto. “Musician’s Friend pulls it into one place, sourced directly from the brands, at prices that reflect what an outlet should be.”

Leadership changes accompany the relaunch, with Brian Packer appointed General Manager of Musician’s Friend. He’ll oversee day-to-day operations and report to Kinna Thomas, SVP of Merchandising Operations, who brings prior experience from senior merchandising roles at Walmart and Target. Jerry Brandehoff, EVP and Chief Merchandising Officer, is expanding his responsibilities to include oversight of the Musician’s Friend business.
