Five Tunable Resonators, MIDI Control, and Preset Morphing: Meet the Erica Synths Razornator

The Erica Synths Razornator was developed in collaboration with Dutch audio software specialists 112dB, and it’s loaded to the brim with effects.

At the heart of the Razornator are five independent delay-based resonators, each chromatically tunable to precise musical intervals. These resonators reinforce selected frequencies, allowing users to simulate the resonant characteristics of acoustic instruments, architectural spaces, or entirely synthetic harmonic structures.

Because each resonator is tuned chromatically, they can be arranged into chord-like voicings, opening the door to harmonically rich textures that respond naturally to incoming audio. An integrated envelope follower further enhances the experience by dynamically controlling the resonators based on the input signal, allowing the effect to breathe and react to your performance.

So how does the Razornator work? The audio first passes through a gain stage capable of boosting signals by up to +24dB, functioning as both a clean preamp and an analogue-style overdrive when pushed.

From there, the signal enters a resonant low-pass filter before feeding the five resonators. Once processed, the resonated signal is summed and controlled by an onboard compressor before being blended with the original dry signal. A final equalizer shapes the overall tone before the balanced stereo outputs deliver the finished sound.

The Razornator offers comprehensive control over every aspect of its sound engine through 12 editable parameters, all of which can be stored and instantly recalled using onboard preset memory.

Preset morphing allows seamless transitions between stored sounds, while full MIDI implementation provides real-time control over every parameter. The resonator tunings themselves can also be played via MIDI, effectively turning the processor into a performance instrument.

A configurable footswitch input expands hands-free operation, making the Razornator equally at home on stage or integrated into a larger studio setup.
