Electro-Harmonix has expanded its bass fuzz lineup with the Deluxe Bass Big Muff Pi 2, a heavily upgraded version of the rare dual op-amp Big Muff circuit.
At its core, the pedal keeps the aggressive midrange grind and long sustain associated with op-amp Big Muff designs, but adds significantly more control than a standard fuzz pedal. The main controls — Volume, Tone, and Sustain — handle output, EQ, and gain, while the Blend knob lets players mix clean bass signal with the fuzz effect to preserve low-end clarity and punch.
One of the standout features is the footswitchable Crossover section. This splits the signal into separate frequency bands, sending highs into the fuzz circuit while keeping the lows cleaner and fuller. The HPF and LPF controls adjust the cutoff points for the high-pass and low-pass filters independently, allowing players to dial in everything from tight modern distortion to massive layered fuzz tones with a beefy low-end foundation underneath.
EHX also added a built-in noise gate to tighten the response and reduce excess fuzz noise during stops and rests. Combined with the crossover controls, you’ve really got control of everything on this pedal.
Connectivity is equally extensive. Alongside the standard input and output jacks, the Deluxe Bass Big Muff Pi 2 includes a selectable -10dB input pad for active or high-output basses, an XLR DI output for direct recording or FOH connection, and a buffered Direct Out carrying the unaffected clean signal.
The pedal also supports both latching and momentary switching. A normal tap engages the effect conventionally, while holding the footswitch temporarily activates the fuzz for short bursts or accents.
