The Yamaha Reface CS Is a Solid Recreation of the Classic CS-80

Sweetwater is here to show off the brand new Yamaha Reface CS, inspired by the iconic CS-80 polyphonic analog synthesizer. Packed with five types of synthesis and onboard effects, the Reface CS delivers everything from lush pads to fat basses and cutting solo leads.

Of course, the Reface CS wouldn’t be a true CS without serious tweakability. Each synthesis type comes with its own Texture and Mod sliders, letting players take simple oscillator types and shape them into pretty much whatever sound they want. Given the reverence the CS-80 still commands among synth players, the Reface CS carries some serious legacy to live up to.

Under the hood, the Reface CS runs on an Analog Physical Modeling Engine with multiple synthesis and oscillator types, paired with an onboard effects processor offering five distinct types for adding depth and character to your sound.

With 8-note polyphony, it’s well-suited to complex chords and pads, while a dedicated Mono mode lets you dial in fat synth basses or expressive solo leads. A built-in phrase looper makes it easy to capture song ideas on the fly or build up “sound on sound” overdubs, and the HQ mini keyboard delivers fast, natural performance.

The Reface CS is also built with portability and flexibility in mind. A continuous controller pedal input handles volume control, while a stereo speaker system — enhanced by specially designed bass reflex port technology for fuller, richer bass response — lets you take your sounds anywhere without needing an amp.

For connectivity, a USB To Host port provides MIDI access to your USB-equipped computer or iOS device, an aux line input lets you play along with mobile devices and tablets, and dual line outputs give you the flexibility to connect to mixers, audio interfaces, DI boxes, and more.
